About Staincross Rangers JFC

Grassroots football with a big heart

Staincross Rangers

Who we are

Staincross Rangers Junior Football Club is a grassroots football club serving the communities of Mapplewell, Staincross, Royston and the wider Barnsley area. We offer football for children of all abilities, focusing on fun, development and a real sense of belonging. From first kicks at mini-soccer through to 11-a-side, we aim to give every young player a safe and positive place to play. Today, the club runs multiple teams across a range of age groups, with well over 150 players training and playing every week, supported by a growing team of volunteer coaches and parents.

Our history

Mapplewell Mavericks ΓÇô the early days

The clubΓÇÖs roots go back to the early 2000s, when we were known as Mapplewell Mavericks JFC. Based in the heart of Mapplewell, the Mavericks quickly became known as ΓÇ£the home of junior football in BarnsleyΓÇ¥, running several boysΓÇÖ and girlsΓÇÖ teams and playing home games at Mapplewell Park and Oakwood in Royston. By 2007, the club was already well established with seven teams across different age groups, regular training sessions, league fixtures most weekends and busy presentation nights at the end of each season.

Mapplewell Mavericks ΓÇô the early days

Over the years as Mapplewell Mavericks, the club: - Gave hundreds of local children their first taste of organised football - Entered teams into local Barnsley junior leagues - Helped launch playing journeys that continued into womenΓÇÖs and menΓÇÖs football - Took part in national media exposure: In 2006 the club appeared on Sky Sports-1ΓÇÖs Saturday morning show Soccer AM. This is a proud moment in the clubΓÇÖs story and one which underlines the level of community engagement and ambition the club held even in its early years. The Mavericks era laid the foundations for the community-focused club that exists today.

From Mavericks to Rangers

As the club grew, it naturally began to serve a wider area than just Mapplewell. Players and families were coming from across Staincross, Royston and surrounding villages, and the committee wanted a name and identity that reflected that broader community. In the years that followed, the club re-branded as Staincross Rangers JFC. While the badge, name and colours changed, the core values did not: - A local, volunteer-run junior football club - Open to children of all abilities - Focused on enjoyment, development and respect Our home base also shifted slightly across the years, but the heart of the club stayed in the same patch of Barnsley, centred around the Mapplewell, Staincross and Royston area. Today, we still play at Oakfield Playing Fields, Oakwood Avenue, Royston S71 4HD as we have done since the mid 00's.

What we stand for

1

Welcome everyone

We do not run trials to turn children away. Our aim is to find a place for every player who wants to be involved, whatever their starting level.

2

Keep football affordable

We work hard to keep subs as low as possible so that cost is not a barrier to taking part. Fund-raising, sponsorship and careful budgeting all help us achieve this.

3

Develop people, not just players

Winning matters, but it is not everything. We want our players to learn teamwork, resilience, respect and confidence that they will carry into school, work and life.

4

Support coaches and volunteers

Our coaches are mainly parents and volunteers who give up their time to help. The club invests in coach education, DBS checks and equipment, knowing that a good coach can make a lifelong difference to a child.
